Project description
The project envisions a major all-season center of active recreation named Biryuzovaya Katun. The site of the future center (close 3,300 hectares) is on the left bank of the Katun River in the highlands of Altai. The local conditions favor a variety of tourist attractions: skiing, horseback riding, water recreation, health facilities, cave visits, and the like.
The center will accommodate up to 3,000 guests simultaneously, or 115,000 each year.
The site is in a special business zone with tax breaks, preferential administrative conditions, provision of access to modern utility and transport infrastructure and other facilities to be built with state budget funding.
Unique features of the project
The region is remarkable for its variegated landscapes, water resources, a permanent snow cap in the wintertime, plenty of sunny days during the year, and unique natural healing resources.

Brief positioning of project
Biryuzovaya Katun (Turquois Katun) Special Economic Area is the first single resort and recreation complex in the Russian Federation for natural and extreme tourism in mountains for young people and individual adventurers. Visitors of Biryuzovaya Katun Special Economic Area will have a chance to go in for rafting, kayaking, canoe drifting, ski mountaineering, skating, rock-climbing and paragliding. Family leisure time activities offer eco-tourism with visiting caves, a nature park, horse riding, driving all-terrain vehicles, fishing, and bathing in an artificial reservoir already created.

Regulation no. 69 of the Government of the Russian Federation dated February 03, 2007, ordered that a special economic area of tourism and recreation type should be established in Altai Territory. Project development is in progress. Tourism and recreation facilities are already operating in the Special Economic Area.
