Udmurt Republic is situated in the east of the Russian Plain, in the European Urals, in the interfluvial plain of the Kama and its right tributary, the Vyatka.
The Republic’s main natural resources are forest, covering 46% of its territory, and oil. 113 oil fields have been identified within the Republic’s territory. 96% of the total oil output is sold outside of the Republic. Annual oil production is within the range of 7-8 million tons.The Republic also has peat, nitrogen and methane fields, deposits of raw building materials (silica sand, clay, limestone), as well as mineral springs and therapeutic muds.
The development of technology-intensive industries accounts for the region’s high intellectual, research and engineering potential. Engineering and metalworking, ferrous metallurgy, forestry and woodworking, chemical, glass, and light industries are active in Udmurt Republic.  The republic’s plants produce cars and motorcycles, hunting rifles, rockets and space hardware, medical equipment, paper industry machinery, and consumer goods. Livestock breeding, primarily for meat and dairy industries, is the Republic's leading agricultural sector.
Udmurt Republic has all basic means of transport, and its transport communications in general correspond in their structure and location to the internal and external economic and transport links of the Republic. The region has 2 federal highways and a railroad connecting its northern and southern parts. Internal waterborne transport infrastructure includes river ports in Sarapul and Kambarka. The Republic has one airport, in Izhevsk.
