Samara Region is situated in the South-East of the East European Plain, in the middle reaches of the Volga. Kuybyshev and Saratov water reserves are situated on its territory. The region’s nature combines a favorable climate, a wealth of healing springs, and picturesque landscape. The Zhiguli Mountains (altitude up to 370m), a unique natural complex, host the Samarskaya Luka National Park.
Samara Region is one the leading Russian regions in terms of economic development, and has a large industrial, natural-resource, educational, scientific, and cultural potential. The region has extensive mineral resources, and is one of the major oil-producing and oil-refining regions of the country.
Samara Region has a high concentration of manufacturing industries, primarily the vehicle manufacturing industry. Almost 80% of all Russian light vehicles are produced here.
Key industry sectors include: metal-fabricating industry, oil processing, petrochemistry, chemistry, construction materials production, food and light industry. Samara Region is the Russian monopolist in the manufacture of 12 types of industrial products, including passenger cars, outboard engines, TU-154 aircrafts, aluminum foil web, etc.
An advantageous geographical position at the intersection of international transport corridors, as well as its modern transportation and logistics infrastructure, make Samara Region a strategic transportation hub connecting Central and Western Europe with Siberia, Central Asia, and Kazakhstan. Two oil pipelines pass by its territory. The Kuybyshev Railway provides a rail service, while the Volga serves as the region’s major waterway. The region has 3 airports, including Kurumach International Airport, the largest in the Volga Region.
